NSERC CREATE Canadian Astrobiology Training Program
Short and Long term Objectives of the CREATE CATP
The first overall objective of the Canadian Astrobiology Training Program (CATP) will be to train teams of outstanding HQP in Astrobiology. This will be accomplished through integrative research approaches containing elements of geology, chemistry, physics, astronomy, microbiology, and robotics, all of which will be implicated in constructing the program at the participating universities and institutions.
The overall longer-term objective will be to increase Canada’s involvement with U.S. and European space exploration missions, and to potentially enable an entirely Canadian astrobiology mission to Mars. CATP will lead to new scientific opportunities and promote Canadian participation in such future missions to Mars and beyond with the ultimate goal of having Canadian scientists actively participating on such missions within 2-5 years as well as the proposed Mars sample return mission.
